Using Therma1™ for injury treatment

Most common areas healed by Therma1™:

1. Neck

Most common injuries:

Neck Strain: Alternating hot and cold therapy.  Apply Therma1™ hot roller to affected area with gentle to moderate compression for 10-15 minutes, followed by gentle stretching of the affected area for another 5-10 minutes.  After stretching, apply Therma1™ cold roller for 3 minutes.  Rest and repeat cold therapy.  This hot and cold therapy sequence should be repeated at least 3 times a day while you are symptomatic.

Neck Sprain: apply Therma1™ cold roller to affected area with gentle to moderate compression for 3 minutes.  Rest 2 minutes and repeat a few times for a total of 10-15 minutes. Repeat treatment at least 4 times a day and up to maximum of 8 times a day until symptoms resolve.

Neck Spasms: apply Therma1™ hot roller to the affected area with moderate to deep compression. The rolling motion should be slow and penetrating, as the therapeutic heat should be felt deeply in the center of the muscle group being treated for up to 20 minutes. Repeat treatment at least 2-3 times a day until symptoms resolve.

2. Shoulder

Most common injuries:

Rotator Cuff Strain: Alternating hot and cold therapy.  Apply Therma1™ hot roller to affected area with gentle to moderate compression for 10-15 minutes, followed by gentle stretching of the affected area for another 5-10 minutes.   After stretching, apply Therma1™ cold roller for 3 minutes. Rest 2 minutes and repeat cold therapy.  This hot and cold therapy sequence should be repeated at least 3 times a day while you are symptomatic.

Rotator Cuff Tendonitis: apply Therma1™ cold roller to the affected area with moderate to deep compression for 3 minutes.  Rest 2 minutes and repeat a few times for a total of 5-10 minutes. Repeat treatment at least 4 times a day until symptoms resolve.

3. Back

Most common injuries: 

Back Strain: Alternating hot and cold therapy.  Apply Therma1™ hot roller to affected area with gentle to moderate compression for 10-15 minutes, followed by gentle stretching of the affected area for another 5-10 minutes.   After stretching, apply Therma1™ cold roller for 3 minutes.  Rest 2 minutes and repeat cold therapy.  This hot and cold therapy sequence should be repeated at least 3 times a day while you are symptomatic.

Back Sprain: apply Therma1™ cold roller to affected area with gentle to moderate compression for 3 minutes.  Rest 2 minutes and repeat a few times for a total of 10-15 minutes.  Repeat treatment at least 4 times a day and up to maximum of 8 times a day until symptoms resolve.

Back Spasms: apply Therma1™ hot roller to the affected area with moderate to deep compression. 4. Biceps

Most common injuries:

Strains: apply Therma1™ cold roller to affected area with gentle to moderate compression for 3 minutes.  Rest 2 minutes and repeat a few times for a total of 10-15 minutes.  Repeat treatment at least 4 times a day and up to maximum of 8 times a day until symptoms resolve.

Tendonitis: apply Therma1™ cold roller to the affected area with moderate to deep compression for 3 minutes.  Rest 2 minutes and repeat a few times for a total of 5-10 minutes. Repeat treatment at least 4 times a day until symptoms resolve.

5. Elbow

Most common injuries:

Tennis Elbow (lateral epicondylitis) and Golfer’s Elbow (medial epicondylitis): apply Therma1™ cold roller to affected elbow area with moderate compression for 3 minutes.  Rest 2 minutes and repeat a few times for a total of 10-15 minutes. Bony areas should be treated more gently with the roller. Affected muscle areas should be deeply massaged and compressed by the roller for maximum effectiveness. This treatment should be performed 3-4 times a day until symptoms resolve.

Elbow Bursitis: apply Therma1™ cold roller to affected elbow area with moderate to deep compression for 3 minutes.  Rest 2 minutes and repeat a few times for a total of 10 minutes.  A firm rolling motion should be applied to aid in the elimination of the swelling commonly associated with this disorder. The Therma1™ cold roller can also be used statically to directly compress small areas of swelling. This treatment should be performed 3-4 times a day until symptoms resolve.

6. Groin

Most common injuries: 

Muscle Strain: Alternating hot and cold therapy.  Apply Therma1™ hot roller to affected area with gentle to moderate compression for 10-15 minutes, followed by gentle stretching of the affected area for another 5 minutes.   After stretching, apply Therma1™ cold roller for 3 minutes.  Rest 2 minutes and repeat cold therapy.  This hot and cold therapy sequence should be repeated at least 3 times a day until symptoms resolve.

7. Hamstring

Most common injuries:

Hamstring Strain – Early Stage: apply Therma1™ cold roller to affected area with light compression for 3 minutes.  Rest and repeat for a total of 15–20 minutes.  This treatment should be repeated up to 8 times a day for the first two days.

Hamstring Strain – Post 48 hours:  Alternating hot and cold therapy.  Apply Therma1™ hot roller to affected area with gentle to moderate compression for 10-15 minutes.  Rest 2 minutes.  Then, apply Therma1™ cold roller for 3 minutes with light compression. Rest 2 minutes and repeat cold therapy a few times for a total of 5-10 minutes.  This hot and cold therapy sequence should be repeated 3-4 times a day until symptoms resolves.

8. Quadriceps

Most common injuries: 

Muscle Strain: Alternating hot and cold therapy.  Apply Therma1™ hot roller to affected area with gentle to moderate compression for 10-15 minutes, followed by gentle stretching of the affected area for another 5-10 minutes.   After stretching, apply Therma1™ cold roller for 3 minutes.  Rest 2 minutes and repeat cold therapy. This hot and cold therapy sequence should be repeated at least 3 times a day while you are symptomatic.

Quadriceps Muscle Contusions: Alternating hot and cold therapy.  Apply Therma1™ hot roller to affected area with light compression for 5 minutes. Then, apply Therma1™ cold roller for 3 minutes with light compression.  Rest 2 minutes and repeat cold therapy.  This hot and cold therapy sequence should be repeated 3-4 times a day until symptoms resolves.

9. IT Band

Most common injuries:

IT Band Friction Syndrome: Alternating hot and cold therapy.  Apply Therma1™ hot roller to the side of your thigh with moderate to deep compression for 10-15 minutes. Take care not to press excessively on the bony prominences of the hip and knee.  The focus of the hot roller massage therapy is to make the long IT band ligament more supple.  If available, use a foam roller for a few minutes after Therma1™ hot roller therapy.  Then, apply Therma1™ cold roller for 3 minutes.  Rest 2 minutes and repeat cold therapy. This hot and cold therapy sequence should be performed at least 2 times a day until symptoms resolve.

10. Knee

Most common injuries:

Patellar Tendonitis: apply Therma1™ cold roller to the affected area with moderate to deep compression for 3 minutes.  Rest 2 minutes and repeat a few times for a total of 5-10 minutes.  Repeat at least 4 times a day until symptoms resolve.

Medial Collateral Ligament Sprain: apply Therma1™ cold roller to affected area with gentle to moderate compression for 3 minutes.  Rest 2 minutes and repeat a few times for a total of 10-15 minutes. Repeat treatment at least 4 times a day and up to maximum of 8 times a day until symptoms resolve.

Strains: Alternating hot and cold therapy.  Apply Therma1™ hot roller to affected area with gentle to moderate compression for 10-15 minutes, followed by gentle stretching of the affected area for another 5-10 minutes.   After stretching, apply Therma1™ cold roller for 3 minutes.  Rest 2 minutes and repeat cold therapy. Pre-Patellar Bursitis: apply Therma1™ cold roller to affected knee area with moderate to deep compression for 3 minutes.  Rest 2 minutes and repeat a few times for a total of 10 minutes.  A firm rolling motion should be applied to aid in the elimination of the swelling commonly associated with this disorders. 11. Calf

12. Shin

Most common injuries:

Shin Splints: apply Therma1™ cold roller to shin for 3 minutes.  Rest 2 minutes and repeat a few times for a total of 10-15 minutes.  Repeat at least 4 times a day and up to a maximum of 8 times per day until symptoms resolve.

13. Ankle

Most common injuries: 

Ankle Sprain: apply Therma1™ cold roller to affected area with gentle to moderate compression for 3 minutes. Rest 2 minutes and repeat a few times for a total of 10 minutes. This treatment should be repeated at least 4 times a day until symptoms resolve.

14. Achilles

Most common injuries: 

Achilles Tendonitis: apply Therma1™ cold roller to the affected area with moderate compression for 3 minutes. Rest 2 minutes and repeat a few times for a total of 10 minutes. This treatment should be repeated at least 4 times a day until symptoms resolve.

15. Foot

Most common injuries:

Midfoot & Forefoot Sprains: apply Therma1™ cold roller to affected area with gentle to moderate compression for 3 minutes.  Rest 2 minutes and repeat a few times for a total of 10-15 minutes. Repeat at least 4 times a day and up to maximum of 8 times a day until symptoms resolve.

Plantar Fasciitis: apply Therma1™ cold roller to affected area for 3 minutes.  Rest 2 minutes and repeat a few times for a total of 15-20 minutes. Repeat treatment at least 4 times a day and up to maximum of 8 times a day until symptoms resolve.
