Using Therma1™ to Treat Common Sports Injuries

FOOTBALL:

Muscle Strains (Hamstring, Calf, Groin, Neck):  Use alternating hot and cold therapy.  Apply heated Therma1™ to affected area with gentle to moderate compression for 5-15 minutes.  This should be followed by gentle stretching of the affected area for approximately 5 minutes.  After stretching, apply cold Therma1™ for 2-3 minutes. This sequence should be repeated at least 3 times a day until symptoms resolve.

Ligament Sprains (Knee, Ankle): Apply cold Therma1™ to affected area with gentle to moderate compression for 2-3 minutes.  Rest 1-2 minutes and repeat for a total of 3 treatment cycles.  This treatment should be repeated at least 4 times a day until symptoms resolve.

Patellar Tendonitis (Knee):  Apply cold Therma1™ to the affected tendon area with moderate to deep compression for 2-3 minutes.  Rest 1-2 minutes and repeat for a total of three treatment cycles.  This treatment should be repeated at least 4 times a day until symptoms resolve.

BASKETBALL:

Achilles Tendonitis: Apply cold Therma1™ to the affected tendon area with moderate compression for 2-3 minutes.  Rest 1-2 minutes and repeat for a total of 3 treatment cycles.  This treatment should be repeated at least 4 times a day until symptoms resolve.

Muscle Contusions (Bruises):  Use alternating hot and cold therapy.  Apply heated Therma1™ to affected area with light compression for 5 minutes. Rest the affected area for 1-2 minutes. This rest period should be followed by application of a cold Therma1™ for 2-3 minutes, again with light compression. This sequence should be repeated 3-4 times a day until symptoms resolve.

Patellar Tendonitis/Patellar Overload Syndrome (Runner’s Knee) and Plica Syndrome:  Apply cold Therma1™ unit to the affected tendon area with moderate to deep compression for 2-3 minutes.  Rest 1-2 minutes and repeat for a total of 3 treatment cycles.  This treatment should be repeated at least 4 times a day until symptoms resolve.

Iliotibial Band (IT Band) Friction Syndrome:  Use alternating hot and cold therapy. Apply heated Therma1™ to the side of thigh with moderate to deep compression. Take care not to press excessively on the bony prominences of the hip and knee.  Heated Therma1™ compression should last 5-15 minutes. If available, you may use a foam roller after the heated Therma1™ treatment.  Cold Therma1™ therapy should be applied for 2-3 minutes following the heated Therma1™ treatment (whether or not a foam roller is used).  Deep compression should be used for cold Therma1™ therapy as well. This treatment should be performed 2-3 times a day until symptoms resolve.

Rotator Cuff Tendonitis:  Apply cold Therma1™ to the affected tendon area with moderate to deep compression for 2-3 minutes.  Rest 1-2 minutes and repeat for a total of 3 treatment cycles.  This treatment should be repeated at least 4 times a day until symptoms resolve.

Tennis Elbow (lateral epicondylitis):  Apply cold Therma1™ to affected elbow area with moderate compression for 2-3 minutes.  Rest 1-2 minutes and repeat for a total of 3 treatment cycles.  Bony areas should be treated gently with the roller. Affected muscle areas should be deeply massaged and compressed by the roller for maximal effectiveness. This treatment should be performed 3-4 times a day until symptoms resolve.

GOLF:

Elbow Bursitis:  Apply cold Therma1™ to affected knee or elbow area with moderate to deep compression for 2-3 minutes.  Rest 1-2 minutes and repeat for a total of 3 treatment cycles.  A firm rolling motion should be applied to aid in the elimination of the swelling commonly associated with this disorder. The cold Therma1™ can also be used statically to directly compress small areas of swelling. This treatment should be performed 3-4 times a day until symptoms resolve.
